Rail link to Secunderabad on fast-track mode

Chief Minister keen on getting the project completed before the next General Elections. The long-cherished dream of a railway line from Kothapalli on the outskirts of Karimnagar town to Manoharabad near Secunderabad is all set to become a reality soon with the State government and the railway authorities responding positively.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had put forward the proposal in 2004 when he was an MP from Karimnagar constituency. Karimnagar is the only district headquarters not connected to the State capital with a railway line.

But despite his best efforts, the project did not materialise. Mr. Rao, after taking over as the first Chief Minister of Telangana, took up the matter with the Railway Ministry, urging it to include it in the coming budget.

The State government, on its part, agreed to bear a third of the cost of construction of the railway line, provide free land for the project and annuity for first five years after commissioning of the line.

The Telangana government has agreed to meet all the conditions set by the Railway Ministry to include it in the ensuing railway budget and expedite project works, sources said.

The proposed railway line would pass through important Assembly segments of Sircilla, represented by Mr. Rao’s son and Information Technology Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao, Siddipet represented by his nephew and Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, and Gajwel, which is represented by the Chief Minister himself.

The sources said all three leaders had taken the railway line as a prestigious project and would ensure that it was grounded and completed in a time-bound manner before the next general elections in 2019.

To benefit devotees, farmers
The railway line is expected to benefit devotees visiting the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Vemulawada, weavers of Sircilla textile town and also farmers of Karimnagar and Medak districts.
