CYCLONE PRECAUTIONS TAKEN BY WESTERN RAILWAY FOR THE SAFETY & SECURITY OF PASSENGERS



Western Railway has taken adequate precautionary measures to deal with the challenge of the ‘Nilofar’ storm. As per meteorological forecasts cyclone ‘Nilofar’ is expected to hit Kutch district in the afternoon of 1stNovember, 2014. Though the maximum impact is likely to be around Naliya near Bhuj, where there is no train service, WR is taking sufficient precautions in Bhuj and Gandhidham areas also.
Following arrangements have been planned by WR to take care of the effect of the cyclone :

·         Round the clock Disaster Management Centre has been set up.
·         All officers & staff have been mobilized and put o­n alert.
·   Adequate arrangement is made to ensure communication to the extent possible through satellite phones and walkie talkies.
·       Adequate provision of drinking water, lighting, communication, food, medical facilities and security arrangements are made.
·      Diesel Generator sets will be provided for power supply with adequate stock of diesel.
·         For the safety of passengers, it has been planned to regulate trains if required by cancelling/short terminating Passenger, Mail/Express trains at suitable locations. Details will be communicated as and when required.
·         ARMEs/Accident Relief Trains have been kept in readiness.
·         Liasoning with District Authorities, NDRF will be done o­n a regular basis.
·         Rescue & Relief material shall be unloaded at suitable locations.
·         Do’s & Don’ts for railway staff & families in railway colonies will be publicised.
·         Patrolmen will be deputed at vulnerable locations.
·         Tree trimming will be carried out.
