In
view of track damage near Elamanchili in Visakhapatnam District due to heavy
rains, Shri P.K.Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway spoke to
Shri I.Y.R.Krishna Rao, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh this morning on
the issue of restoration of train services to Visakhapatnam. SCR sought the
help of AP State Government in moving the Earth Moving Equipments like
proclainers / JCBs etc., to the track breach sites between Elamanchili and
Bayyavaram in view of difficulties faced due to lack of proper approach roads
there. AP Govt. immediately responded positively and the local officials
assisted South Central Railway in this regard. The equipment and material were
moved to the site and restoration activities are underway on war-footing.
Shri K. Siva Prasad, Chief Passenger Transportation Manager (CPTM), South
Central Railway attended the review meeting conducted by the Chief Secretary,
AP Govt at Secretariat this afternoon on relief / restoration of train
services to Visakhapatnam. Also, the CPTM participated in video-conference
review of the Cabinet Secretary, New Delhi and briefed him on the steps taken
by SCR in smoothly handling the situation arousing out of cyclone ‘Hudhud’ and
massive restoration measures taken up by SCR. He informed that the rail route
to Visakhapatnam is likely to be restored for normal traffic by tomorrow
i.e.,14th October, 2014.
