Shri P. K. Srivastava, GM/SCR Inaugurates 28th All India Railway Cricket Championship for Women 2014-15


Shri P.K. Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway, declared open the 28th All India Railway Cricket Championship for Women 2014-15 here at Railway Sports Complex, Secunderabad today i.e. 9thFebruary, 2015. South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA) is organising the championship matches scheduled to be held from 9th to 15thFebruary, 2015. Total of eight teams of various Zones are participating in the championship.  The participants include South Central Railway, Eastern Railway, North Frontier Railway, Western Railway, Northern Railway, Southern Railway, Central Railway and North Central Railway.

Shri P.K. Srivastava called upon the participants to show true sportsmanship in the matches and bring laurels to the Cricket o­n Indian Railways. He said that it is proud to have two Padmashri Awardees and many legendary women cricketers o­n Indian Railways.

On the opening day match, South Central Railway under the captaincy of Mithali Raj won over Eastern Railway by 5 wickets. Toss was won by SCR and elected to bowl, Eastern Railway scored 155 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs. In return SCR scored 156 in 42.5 overs, T. Shani scored 44 runs, S.Himabindu 30, Shalini with 29 stood as best performers.

In another match held at Athletic grounds Western Railway won over North Frontier Railway. Toss was won by North Frontier Railway and elected to bat. NF Railway scored 96 runs for 10 wickets in 46.5 overs. In return Western Railway scored 100 runs for 2 wickets in 24.5 overs.

Shri S.N.Singh, Principle Chief Engineer, Shri Kabeer Ahmad. S, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Shri Gajanan Mallya, President SCRSA and Sr. Deputy General Manager, SCRSA and Shri K. Srikanth Reddy, Secretary/Cricket/SCRSA and Secretary to GM were also present.
