As announced by
the Hon’ble Minister for Railways in the Railway Budget 2013–14, a new
weekly train will be introduced between Puducherry
and Kanniyakumari.

Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways will flag off
the inaugural Puducherry – Kanniyakumari special at 17.00 hrs. on 15.7.2013
(Monday) in the presence of Thiru V. Narayanasamy, Hon’ble Union Minister of
State in Prime Minister’s Office and Hon’ble Minister of State for Personnel,
Public Grievances & Pension and Thiru N. Rangasamy, Hon’ble Chief Minister
of Puducherry, at a function to be held at Puducherry railway station. Thiru P.
Kannan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Thiru V. Vaithilingam, Hon’ble Leader of
Opposition, Puducherry, senior railway officials and other dignitaries will
participate in the function.
Inaugural
Special
Train No 06861
Puducherry – Kanniyakumari Special will leave Puducherry at 17.00 hrs on
15.7.2013 and arrive Kanniyakumari at 08.40 hrs on 16.7.2013.
In the return
direction, Train No. 06862 Kanniyakumari – Puducherry Special will leave
Kanniyakumari at 13.35 hrs on 16.7.2013 and arrive Puducherry at 05.25 hrs on
17.7.2013.
Regular Service
Regular service
of Train No. 16861 Puducherry – Kanniyakumari Weekly Express will commence from
18.7.2013 and that of Train No. 16862 Kanniyakumari Weekly Express from
19.7.2013.
Train No 16861
Puducherry – Kanniyakumari Weekly express will depart Puducherry at 11.30 hrs on
Thursdays and arrive Kanniyakumari at 03.15 hrs on Fridays.
In the return
direction, Train No 16862 Kanniyakumari – Puducherry Weekly express will leave
Kanniyakumari at 13.35 hrs. on Fridays and arrive Puducherry at 05.25 hrs. on
Saturdays.
Composition and
Stoppages of the Inaugural Special & the Regular service
Composition : 1 AC 2-tier, 2 AC 3-tier, 5 Sleeper Class, 6
General Second Class and 2 second class-cum-disabled-friendly coaches.
Stoppages : Villupuram, Tiruppadirippuliyur, Cuddalore Port,
Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuturai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Tiruchchirappalli,
Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi, Devakottai Road, Sivaganga, Manamadurai,
Aruppukkottai, Virudunagar, Sattur, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli, Valliyur and
Nagercoil.
Advance reservation for the
special trains as well as regular service will commence on 13.7.2013
