First Unit of Railways’ Joint Venture Captive Power Plant Targetted to be Commissioned in 2015

Indian Railways is establishing 4x250 Mega Watt (MW) coal based captive power plant at Nabinagar in Bihar in Joint Venture (JV) with NTPC which is under construction. The First unit of power plant at Nabinagar is likely to be commissioned during 2015. Railways is having regular meetings with NTPC to expedite completion of this project.

Further, 2x660 MW coal based thermal power plant at Adra in West Bengal also planned in JV with NTPC is at proposal stage for which the application for coal linkage has been submitted.

The estimated cost o Nabinagar project is about Rs. 5350 crore. The production output of this plant will be 1000 MW.

The project at Nabinagar is being funded in dept: equity model of 70:30. Out of equity portion of Rs. 1606 crore, contribution of India Railways & NTPC will be Rs. 418 crore (26%) & Rs. 1188 crore (74%) respectively.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
